Over the past few months, I’ve had a few challenging moments and decisions to make—both professionally and personally as many of us have over time.
Some of the most meaningful came from honest conversations with my kids about decision-making and doing the right thing. Normally on the baseball field whilst training my girls team…but that is another life lesson!
It got me thinking…There is only one version of you. And the only things you truly control are:
👏 Your behaviour
👍 Your decisions
😊 Your values
YEP, Simple in theory. Not so easy in reality! When my kids ask what they should do in a tough situation, my advice is always the same:
👉 Do what aligns with your values.
Because the truth is—the right decision is rarely the easy one.
In recruitment as in life, we don’t always start from a position of trust. That means the responsibility is on us, every single day, to shift that perception.
And the real test? It’s not when everyone is watching. It’s in the moments where:
🙊 No one would ever know what decision you made
🙈 There’s an easier path
🙉 There’s a quicker dollar to be earned
That’s where your values show up.
👉 Protect your personal brand—it’s yours to own.
👉 Focus on long-term trust, not short-term gain.
👉 Walk away from people or situations that don’t respect you.
👉 Don’t get drawn into negativity—rise above it.
And if something doesn’t feel right… pause. You already know the answer. Over time, if you stay true to your values, two things happen:
🦾 You build something real and sustainable
😇 You sleep well at night knowing you did things the right way
Because at the end of the day—you’re the one who has to live with your decisions. And that matters.
